Episode #19 – Why Talk Therapy Isn’t Helpful for OCD/Anxiety

September 27, 2020

< back to blog home

In this episode, I go over why talk or “supportive” therapy isn’t helpful for OCD/anxiety and, moreso, how these therapy approaches can actually be harmful for these symptoms.  I talk about how to approach conversations with a therapist about Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) and why ERP is necessary in order for long-lasting, legitimate change to occur with OCD and anxiety.  I’ll provide you with some resources to find an ERP therapist in your area and how to address common blocks or hesitancies in taking the leap for this kind of therapy.
